HR expert to speak about leadership

A popular business development event series designed to build entrepreneurial leadership skills will kick off on Thursday 24 March at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Innovation Centre.

Guest presenter is USC Human Resource Management Lecturer Dr John Whiteoak who will outline leadership fundamentals in his Boardroom Briefing presentation of “Leader v Manager – what’s the difference?”.

Innovation Centre Entrepreneur in Residence Nigel Hall said this will be the first of eight Boardroom Briefing events based on the entrepreneurial leadership theme.

Future topics will include strategy and thought leadership, ethics as business guidance tools, innovate to create market leadership and recruiting and team leadership.

At Thursday’s workshop, Dr Whiteoak will outline the qualities of leadership without neglecting management, and provide suggestions on how business owners and managers can manage their teams more effectively.

Dr Whiteoak has more than 10 years experience working with Australian and global organisations across a range of industries, including construction, government, higher education, mining and property development.

He also is a dynamic keynote speaker on motivation and leadership, and has published work in international management journals on topics like team effectiveness, human resource management and employee motivation.

University students interested in business or entrepreneurship also are welcome to attend the workshop at no cost to build their knowledge and connections.

The event on Thursday 24 March event will be held from noon to 1.30pm. Tickets cost $33, which includes a light lunch.
