Orientation for 1,370 new students at USC
The University of the Sunshine Coast is gearing up to welcome about 1,370 new students during Semester 2 Orientation from 18-22 July.
Orientation will include plenty of academic and fun social activities, as well as special welcome events for students in each of USC’s three faculties – Science, Health and Education (Tuesday), Arts and Social Sciences (Wednesday), and Business (Thursday).
Throughout the week, new students will be able to gain information about their degrees and career opportunities, learn some handy study tips, tour the campus, and take part in library and computer network tutorials.
The busiest day will be Tuesday 21 July, with entertainment, community markets, a barbecue lunch, bush tucker walks with Gubbi Gubbi elder Beverly Hand, a salsa dance workshop and games of Giant Twister.
On Wednesday 22 July, students can take part in activities like volleyball and tug-of-war from 11am-1pm, a “World Soccer Challenge” tournament from noon-2pm, and a global fiesta of international food and music from 6-9pm.
As part of Thursday morning’s Faculty of Business welcome event from 9-10am, academics will match wits in their annual Great Debate.
And the University will run a special Orientation camp at USC’s Dilli Village Environmental Education Camp on Fraser Island from Friday 22 July.
USC’s most popular undergraduate degrees for mid-year are Psychology, Sport and Exercise Science, Science, Arts, Business and Journalism.
The biggest increases in the number of student enrolments have been in Sport and Exercise Science, Journalism, Education/Arts, Human Services, Business (Marketing) and Computer-Based Design.
The University expects to enrol 850 new undergraduates this semester, including 286 international students.
In addition, there are more than 400 new enrolments in USC’s Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP) program and over 100 new students in postgraduate programs.
