Students stage annual mid-year exhibition
An exhibition of colourful and evocative works by more than 40 advanced-level Design students from the University of the Sunshine Coast is now on display at USC's Art Gallery.
The exhibition, called Awake Me in Space, was officially opened on Thursday 9 June by USC graduate Max Duff who is now the senior designer of Unit International clothing for BMX, Moto and FMX.
About 350 people attended the opening of the exhibition which features large format prints on paper, canvas and vinyl and explores the themes of “the changing aspects of technology, fantasy, the human form, culture and metropolis”.
Lecturer in Digital Design Dr Debra Livingston said the exhibition showcased the innovation and creativity of USC's Design students who are about to enter the workforce.
“Concentrating on digital illustration, the students are encouraged to experiment with photography, painting and drawing skills combined with computer software to produce a dynamic body of art work,” she said.
“The exhibition is an opportunity for the University to show the broader community what our students are doing and what is at the forefront of graphic design in Queensland.”
Dr Livingston said USC’s Bachelor of Computer-Based Design prepared students for a variety of careers, including advertising, graphic design, multimedia design, packaging, publishing, visual communication and web design.
Awake Me In Space will be at the USC Gallery until Saturday 9 July and then at Gympie Regional Gallery from 16 August to 3 September.
The USC Gallery is located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs. It is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. The Gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays.
