USC's Office of Research team members prepare for the Bridge to Brisbane fun run

7 September 2011

Staff from the University of the Sunshine Coast will be taking more than just a few steps this weekend to boost the University’s research profile.

A team of six employees from USC’s Office of Research will lace up their joggers on Sunday (11 September) to tackle the 10km Bridge to Brisbane fun run.

Team organiser and USC’s Intellectual Property Coordinator for the Office of Research, Janet Campbell, said USC currently had 250 research and consultancy projects underway with another 60 research applications being processed.

Ms Campbell said the fun run was a great opportunity for team members to spend time together outside of work and, at the same time, promote USC’s research at a major event.

“Participating in an event like the Bridge to Brisbane helps foster the team spirit which is required every day in our line of work,” she said.

“Any one research project needs a multi-disciplinary approach because it’s not just one person supporting the researchers working on a project.

“We work as a team supporting researchers with everything from sourcing funding opportunities through to the necessary approval processes including contract negotiations.”

USC’s current research strengths include aquaculture, forestry and sustainability, with scientists working on nationally significant projects like tank-bred tuna, carbon sequestration in trees, and assessing South-East Queensland’s ability to adapt to possible climate change scenarios.
