Teams sign up for USC Relay For Life
Teams of students have already started signing up for the inaugural University of the Sunshine Coast Relay For Life to be held at the USC sports stadium on April 1-2.
Staff, students and graduates of USC have been encouraged to participate in the fundraising event, which organisers from the Cancer Council Queensland hope will attract about 20 teams and raise more than $20,000.
The teams will comprise 10-15 people taking turns to keep a baton moving in a relay-style walk or run overnight from 7pm to 7am.
Cancer Council Queensland Relay For Life Coordinator Sara Morley said USC would become the first university in Queensland to stage a relay of this type.
“Cancer Council Queensland’s Relay For Life is more than just a fundraiser,” said Ms Morley, a USC Bachelor of Communication graduate.
“It is an opportunity to get together with your community and celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.”
USC Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill encouraged staff and students to get behind this event as participants or through sponsorship of participants.
“Cancer affects many people, and this relay is one way we can help combat the disease by raising funds for research and community awareness.”
The relay will have an “April Fools” theme and will feature free entertainment, prizes and ceremonies.
