Thousands expected at annual Open Day
You can take a personality test, learn to speak basic Indonesian, watch a paramedic emergency response simulation and even discover the “secret lives of accountants” at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Open Day on Sunday 14 August.
The popular annual event, from 10am to 3pm, is an ideal opportunity for prospective students to find out about the wide range of programs and courses offered by USC … and to have plenty of fun in the process.
Last year’s Open Day attracted more than 4,000 people, and organisers are expecting an even larger crowd this year following a strong response to USC’s latest “Best of Both Worlds” advertising campaign.
Visitors will be able to chat one-on-one with academics about USC’s 140 undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including the new combined degree in Nursing Science and Midwifery.
Administrative staff will be available to discuss how to apply to study, scholarships and financial support, alternative pathways to study, and the University’s support services. Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) representatives will be there too.
Visitors can join guided tours of campus facilities and nearby accommodation complexes, visit the University’s art gallery, library and book shop, chat with graduates and current students and try out some sporting activities at USC’s Sports Stadium.
They can also attend seminars about job prospects in particular fields, participate in a range of hands-on activities, and enjoy displays by student interest groups.
The Sunshine Coast University Hospital will provide a display and lead an information session on how its development will boost employment opportunities for graduates.
Other highlights will include personality tests led by Psychology students, illustration and photographic displays, Paramedic Science and Civil Engineering demonstrations, the chance to learn basic Indonesian in 60 minutes and find out what accountants really get up to in their careers.
Education students also will be out in force providing a range of fun activities for kids.
To make the most of USC’s Open Day, download a program from the USC website at www.usc.edu.au/openday or contact the University on 5430 2890.
