Three exhibitions on show at USC Gallery

Lisa Maree William's portrait of Jessica Origliasso of The Veronicas

15 July 2011

Three interesting exhibitions of work ranging from award-winning photographic portraits to animated films and computer games are now on show at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery.

The photographic exhibition is by former Sunshine Coast resident and now Sydney-based photojournalist Lisa Maree Williams.

Portraits: Lisa Maree Williams will trace Ms Williams’ career as an international award-winning photographer over recent years.

It features alongside a touring exhibition from QUT/CyberTribe Productions called Big Eye Aboriginal Animations.

This exhibition presents a diverse collection of short films by Canadian and Australian Indigenous artists as part of NAIDOC celebrations. It includes stop-motion, hand-drawn, computer-generated machinima and other animation techniques.

The third exhibition, Feeling Safe, has been presented by USC’s engage research lab team.

This team, headed by Dr Christian Jones, is conducting ongoing research into the use of technology - especially computer games - to address important challenges facing society.

The exhibitions were officially opened on Thursday 14 July. Guest speakers were Gubbi Gubbi man Kerry Neil and USC’s founding Vice-Chancellor Emeritus Professor Paul Thomas AM.

The exhibitions will remain on show at the USC Gallery until Saturday 20 August.

The gallery is located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs. It is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, but is closed Sundays and public holidays.

The 2011 University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery program is proudly supported by Coastline BMW and the Kurtz family.
