University closed due to severe weather

11 January 2011

Updated 2pm

The University of the Sunshine Coast closed for business today at 2pm due to severe weather conditions across the region.

A series of thunderstorms, which swept across the Sunshine Coast today, caused flash flooding, sharp rises in rivers and creeks, and dangerous road conditions.

The University itself has not been flooded. Its decision to close was based on health and safety concerns for staff and students travelling to and from the campus at Sippy Downs.

The University will assess conditions tomorrow morning (Wednesday 12 January) before deciding whether to reopen or not.

A notice on this decision will be posted on the USC website after 8am tomorrow.

The Sunshine Coast Council website has up-to-date information about road closures across the region.
