University offers school students a Headstart
The University of the Sunshine Coast will hold an information evening about its award-winning Headstart program for Year 11 and 12 students on Wednesday 16 March at 6pm.
Senior high school students and their parents are invited to this event, which will outline how the program works, its costs and course options. An optional tour of the USC campus will be available from 5.15pm.
More than 700 students from more than 30 Sunshine Coast high schools have participated in this program to date, and have relished the experiences of attending on-campus lectures and completing university-level assessments.
The information evening is for anyone who’d like to participate in Headstart, particularly those aiming to enrol for Semester 2 this year, with applications closing on Friday 13 May.
External Relations Manager Kylie Russell said Headstart students could choose from more than 90 courses and gain credit towards a USC degree.
“Headstart gives you an idea of what university life is like and helps prepare you for future study,” she said. “It’s all about improving the transition from Year 12 to University.
“Once a student has done Headstart, they’re familiar with the workload, the people and campus life. This means they can hit the ground running as an undergraduate.”
Ms Russell said some of the most popular Headstart courses this year were communication, psychology, creative writing, education and chemistry.
