University unaffected by flood events

12 January 2011

Flood events across Queensland have not affected the operations of the University of the Sunshine Coast.

The Sunshine Coast was relatively unscathed by flooding that has affected large areas of Queensland, including riverside suburbs of the State capital, Brisbane.

Brisbane’s international airport has remained opened, though, and the highway linking Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast is unaffected.

International spokesperson for the University of the Sunshine Coast, Professor Robert Elliot, said news reports in many countries had covered flood devastation in Queensland.

“The worst affected areas are some distance away from the Sunshine Coast,” he said.

"We can assure our international students and their families that everything is ready for the start of the new semester.”
