University’s pool now open for business

USC's swimming pool

28 September 2011

The University of the Sunshine Coast’s stunning 10-lane, 50m swimming pool is now open for business.

The $2.1 million heated Olympic-size pool will be open from 6.30am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays and from 8am to noon on Saturdays.

Casual entry fees are $4.50 adult and $3 for USC staff, students and concessions. Pool memberships and multi-visit passes are available.

The pool was funded by the Queensland Government, the University and more than $300,000 in community donations and in-kind support during construction.

The State Government’s contribution of $900,000 was made to help get more Queenslanders active through sport and recreation.

An official opening ceremony has been planned for mid-October.

USC Sport Manager Nathan Gordon said the pool would provide the University with an important teaching and research facility, but would still be available for community use.

“This Olympic-size pool complements the rest of USC’s sporting facilities and will enable us to attract a wider range of athletes,” Mr Gordon said.

“The close proximity of the University’s gymnasium, stadium, athletics track and training fields will be ideal for those interested in cross-training.”

The pool was constructed over 10 months as stage one of USC’s planned aquatic centre. The University is currently seeking grants for stage two of the project.

Community donations to the project can be made by contacting the Foundation on 5430 1104 or foundation@usc.edu.au
