USC unaffected by cyclone or flood events
The operations of the University of the Sunshine Coast have not been affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasi in North Queensland, nor by the recent flood events in south-east Queensland.
Cyclone Yasi crossed the Queensland coast last night near Tully, south of Cairns and almost 1200km north-west of the Sunshine Coast.
The Sunshine Coast also was relatively unscathed by flooding in mid-January that affected large areas of Queensland, including riverside suburbs of the State capital, Brisbane.
Brisbane’s international airport and the highway linking Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast have remained open.
International spokesperson for the University of the Sunshine Coast, Professor Robert Elliot, said news reports in many countries had covered flood devastation in Queensland last month and Cyclone Yasi as it neared the North Queensland coastline.
"We can assure our international students and their families that everything is ready for the start of the new semester.”
