USC appoints two Executive Deans
The University of the Sunshine Coast has appointed two Executive Deans to lead its redesigned academic structure from January 2012.
Professor John Bartlett of the University of Western Sydney will become the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering.
Professor Bartlett is currently the Dean (Elect) of the School of Science at UWS and previously held senior positions with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation where he established worldwide research and industry collaborations.
USC’s Professor Joanne Scott will become the Executive Dean of the new Faculty of Arts and Business.
Professor Scott is currently the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and has been an academic at USC since 1997. She is a Professor of History and chaired the University's Learning and Teaching Management Committee from 2007-2010.
USC internal academic structure will officially change from three faculties to two as of January 1 next year.
The existing Faculty of Science, Health and Education will be extended in name only to include the word “Engineering” and will comprise three schools: Health and Sport Sciences; Nursing and Midwifery; and Science, Education and Engineering.
The Faculties of Arts and Business will be combined and will also have three schools: Business; Communication; and Social Sciences. The University’s Sustainability Research Centre will be part of this combined faculty.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill congratulated Professors Bartlett and Scott on their appointments.
“This restructure is about positioning ourselves for a greater national profile and for future growth,” he said. “Our degree offerings will not be affected by the structural changes.”
