USC makes more than 2,700 offers

Students relax on the lawn of the USC campus

16 January 2011

More than 2,700 people have this weekend been offered places in degree programs at the University of the Sunshine Coast starting Semester 1, 2011.

This is the highest number of offers made by the University in its 15-year history, and is a five percent increase on last year.

2,773 places have been offered to date, and that number is expected to exceed 3,000 when Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) offer rounds are completed next month.

USC’s most sought-after degree is its Bachelor of Nursing Science, with 216 offers made. This degree was introduced in 2007 in response to a nationwide shortage of qualified nursing graduates.

There also has been continued demand for places in other health-related degrees, especially Sport and Exercise Science, Paramedic Science, Psychology, Biomedical Science and Nutrition and Dietetics.

The 2,773 offers for places at USC include 1,985 to Sunshine Coast applicants and 573 to residents from across Queensland and 200 from interstate.

USC’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill congratulated those who received offers and he is looking forward to welcoming them to USC during Orientation Week from 14-18 February.

“This is certainly an exciting time for those who are preparing to study at the University of the Sunshine Coast,” he said.

“Tertiary study is an investment that will pay handsome dividends for career prospects and provide an ideal preparation for a world that relies on lifetime learning.”

The major round of offers was to be released online through QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre – www.qtac.edu.au) on Thursday 13 January but was delayed due to flooding in Brisbane. Most students were likely to have received their offers via email over the weekend.

Enrolment packs from USC will arrive in applicants’ mailboxes over the next few days.

Students have until Sunday 23 January to respond to this offer round.
Responding promptly to the offer pack will guarantee a place at USC in Semester 1, which begins Monday 21 February.

Anyone who has applied to USC but does not receive an offer pack within the next few days should contact Marie Madden at the University on 5430 2879.
