USC to celebrate International Women’s Day

7 March 2011

The University of the Sunshine Coast will hold a special celebration tomorrow morning (Tuesday 8 March) to mark the 100th International Women's Day.

Staff and students have been invited to attend a breakfast event at USC’s Innovation Centre Auditorium from 7.30am. At least 100 people are expected to attend.

Guest speaker will be Sunshine Coast television presenter and University journalism teacher Rosanna Natoli and the theme will be “Celebrating 100 years of women's achievements”.

A three-piece band, Madame Butterfly, will provide light music. Those attending have been encouraged to wear clothing in the International Women's Day colours of purple, green and white.

The event also will celebrate the University of the Sunshine Coast this week receiving its 7th consecutive Employer of Choice For Women citation.

These citations are awarded annually by the Equal Opportunity For Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) in recognition of efforts to increase the representation of women at senior staff levels and to help staff maintain work/life balance.

The University of the Sunshine Coast was one of 98 organisations nationally, and one of only 12 in Queensland, to earn an Employer of Choice for Women citation this year.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill said USC’s continued success in receiving the citation was worth celebrating, especially as two-thirds of the University’s staff members are women.

“This citation recognises that USC is a workplace that supports its female staff by providing a positive and flexible environment,” he said.

More details about the citation are available at the EOWA website.
