USC to celebrate outstanding graduates

14 September 2011

The University of the Sunshine Coast will honour three of its high-achieving graduates at its 2011 Outstanding Alumni of the Year Awards tomorrow (Thursday 15 September).

These awards are presented annually to recognise USC alumni (graduates) for significant achievements in their fields of endeavour, from professional and academic achievements to research and community work.

Media and all USC graduates are welcome to attend the ceremony from 5.45-7.45pm at USC’s Innovation Centre auditorium. A crowd of about 140 people is expected.

Receiving awards tomorrow will be Science Honours graduate and PhD candidate Nubia Ramos of Nambour, Bachelor of Business graduate Dave Gilbert previously of Ilkley, and combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business graduate Chris Raine who grew up in Caloundra.

Ms Ramos now works as a research scientist at the famous Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and has returned to Australia this week to attend the ceremony.

Mr Gilbert is the Executive General Manager of Operations for mining consultant company AGC in Western Australia, and Mr Raine is a social entrepreneur who is working to encourage young people to develop a healthier relationship with alcohol through his innovative Hello Sunday Morning program.

USC’s Alumni Relations Officer Anita Edmonds said the annual celebration provided a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect with the University and network with fellow graduates and friends of USC.

She said there was no charge to attend, and refreshments and finger food would be served.

To attend the awards ceremony, graduates can contact Anita Edmonds via email at alumni@usc.edu.au, phone (07) 5459 4564 or visit www.usc.edu.au/alumniawards.
