USC to change internal academic structure
The University of the Sunshine Coast is about to change its internal academic structure from three faculties to two.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill announced the planned change to staff and students recently, indicating that the new structure could be in place by January 2012 following extensive consultation with staff.
USC’s governing body, the University Council, approved the new academic structure last Thursday (18 August).
The largest faculty, the Faculty of Science, Health and Education, will be extended in name only to include the word “Engineering”, while the Faculties of Arts and Business will be combined.
Professor Hill said most universities of the same size and slightly larger than USC had a two-faculty structure.
“This restructure is about positioning ourselves for a greater national profile and for future growth,” he said.
“Over the next few months we will be working to finalise the details of this new model. Our degree offerings will not be affected by the structural changes.”
Professor Hill said each Faculty would contain three Schools.
The Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering will have the Schools of: Health and Sport Sciences; Nursing and Midwifery; and Science, Education and Engineering.
The Faculty of Arts and Business will comprise the Schools of: Business; Communication; and Social Sciences.
USC will soon conduct interviews for the Executive Deans and Executive Officers for both Faculties.
