USC to hold third Graduation for 2011

USC will hold its third Graduation ceremony for 2011 on Friday 30 September

22 September 2011

A crowd of about 1,200 graduands and guests is expected at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s 2011 Semester 2 Graduation ceremony on Friday 30 September.

This celebration in the University’s Sports Stadium will be USC’s third Graduation ceremony this year, following two much larger events in April.

It will feature plenty of pomp and ceremony, including an academic procession at 4.55pm, medals for high-achieving students and staff, and the presentation of five honorary awards.

USC Chancellor John Dobson OAM will confer degrees and certificates on graduands, while Dr Karen Woolley, the CEO of Proscribe Medical Communications, will deliver the graduation address.

Dr Woolley of Noosaville has been a director of the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast for the past four years and is an adjunct professor of USC and the University of Queensland.

The Doctor of Medical Science, who has a keen interest in business development, was the Sunshine Coast Business Woman of the Year in 2004 and the Telstra Business Woman of the Year for Queensland in 2005.

During the ceremony on Friday, Dr Woolley will receive an Honorary Doctorate from USC for her significant achievements and contributions to the advancement of knowledge economies and business innovation globally.

Honorary Senior Fellowships will be presented to education advocates Jocelyn Walker of Mooloolaba and Beverley Hinz of Mooloolah Valley, businessman John Shadforth of Caloundra and soccer coach Otto Klaus of Kawana Island.

The ceremony will be video-streamed live on the USC website.
