Chun Hau Neo
Home country: Singapore
Program: Bachelor of Arts (Japanese)
The idea of living and studying by the coast attracted Chun Hau to USC, but when he got here he found so much more.
“The surf and the whole concept of living by the coast attracted me the most. Also, Australia attracts people from many different countries. Therefore, I thought it was a good opportunity to meet more people from different places and broaden my perspectives in many areas,” he says.
“The most interesting experience I have had is being able to look out of the classroom during class and see wild kangaroos sitting in the middle of the campus.”
“Another thing that attracted me to USC was the GO Program because my major is Japanese language and I thought it would be a good opportunity if I could go to Japan on a student exchange program.”
“The GO experience definitely brought me so much more than I expected. In terms of academically, my level of Japanese language improved leaps and bounds. Also, the fact of being there, submerged in their culture, gave me the opportunity to learn to view things and life from a different perspective. I would definitely recommend it to whoever is interested in the GO program.”
Chun Hau says he found USC tutors and USC International staff to be very supportive.
“They always try their best to help in any way, which is the biggest help I could have gotten,” he says. “The tutorial classes are small and that enables the tutors to focus on every individual student’s progress during the course.”
Chun Hau is staying in privately-managed student accommodation.
“I am living in Uni Central which is five minutes walk away from school and I think it is a cosy environment to live in and to travel to school” he says.
“USC is a university which has been growing rapidly throughout the years. I think it has a lot of potential to become a renowned university and of course I want to be part of that.”
