Laura Roberson
Home country: USA, University of Tennessee
Study Abroad student Laura Roberson made the journey from Tennessee to Australia’s Sunshine Coast to broaden her view of the world.
“As a journalism major, it is important that I am able to look at the world from different viewpoints, so what better place to do that than Australia,” Laura says.
Laura was able to find courses at USC that fit well with her major.
“My favourite course is ‘Editing for the Communications Professional’ because it is a journalism course, I am working toward my major and learning valuable information,” she says.
The USC campus and academic environment are appealing.
“I love the small school atmosphere; there is someone I know in every class. USC truly has a community atmosphere,” Laura says.
“My professors have helped me to adjust to the different modes of assessment, and to be quite honest, I’ve really enjoyed seeing the kangaroos on campus.”
Living in student accommodation has also broadened Laura’s experience.
“I’ve met so many interesting people that have really enhanced my time here through UniCentral (Student Accommodation). It’s been a great opportunity to meet other international and Australian students,” she says.
Laura spends her leisure time enjoying Sunshine Coast beaches. “I love the beaches here. They are absolutely gorgeous!”
“I enjoy going out to Fridays or Dusk on Thursday nights and of course I enjoy the shopping.”
Laura recommends USC to other Study Abroad students. “It’s a welcoming environment and offers a great taste of Australia,” she says.
