Patrick Walden

Bachelor of Business

Patrick Walden is not letting Cerebral Palsy stand between him and his career ambitions, with a trio of scholarships helping fund his Bachelor of Business studies at USC.

Patrick received the Rod and Jan Forrester Scholarship in Business, the Millennium Masonic Lodge Bursary and a Commonwealth Equity Scholarship—each helping to streamline his passage through university.

“Due to my physical disability, I have higher than normal associated costs and so receiving extra financial assistance is helpful,” Patrick says.

“I’ve used it to purchase textbooks and other study related materials and to help fund the cost of transportation to and from campus.”

With aspirations of working in the education sector as a business teacher or in corporate marketing, Patrick said the Bachelor of Business program offered at USC fit his goals perfectly.

“This is a degree which will enable me to work in many different fields without having to undertake further study immediately. This means that I do not have to decide exactly what I want to do and where I want to be in the future, today,” he said.

“USC offered the degree program I am interested in, and is within close proximity to my home which means I did not have to relocate to be able to attend university.”

Patrick completed two business foundation courses as part of the Headstart program prior to commencing full-time study in 2008. He said the Headstart opportunity also contributed to his selecting USC.
