Free USC course helps build university skills

USC is offering a free two-day course to inspire people to take their first steps towards new study and career pathways.

USC will run University Skills for the Community, also known as US4C, on 19-20 June at its Caboolture campus at 80-106 Tallon Street.

USC spokesperson Veronica Sanmarco said the course was designed for adults who had not studied formally or had not completed high school and wanted to brush up on their academic skills.

“The program will help to demystify university for those who are unsure about what tertiary study involves,” Ms Sanmarco said.

“It offers a supportive group environment to help people build their confidence and capacity for university learning while developing new skills.”

Participants will be introduced to key concepts of academic writing and research and given guidance around career decision making. Workbooks are provided free of charge and there are no tuition costs.

“With no assignments, exams or costs to worry about, this is the ideal course for people wanting to sample higher education and discover what study opportunities are available,” she said.

Another round of the course will be offered in December.
