Online Open Day ideal for career-changers

USC’s first online Open Day on Sunday 19 July is quickly gaining momentum, with almost 2,000 people already registered to “attend”.

The event, from 9.30am to 12.30pm, is expected to hold extra significance for those considering a career change following the impacts of COVID-19 restrictions on the job market.

While social distancing restrictions made it impossible for USC to hold its usual Open Day this year, the University is still offering an immersive, personalised experience to prospective students and their families.

There will be a wide range of presentations, including live question-and-answer webinars, step-by-step guides on how to apply to study, and virtual displays of USC’s facilities at its campuses from Moreton Bay to Fraser Coast.

Registrations for the event are currently up more than 10 percent on last year, with non-school leavers making up more than half of those planning to take part.

Strong interest has been shown in the disciplines of Nursing and Midwifery, Allied Health and Health Sciences, Psychology, Education, Medical Science and Business.

USC’s Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students) Professor Denise Wood AM said the online event had been designed to give people a similar experience to physically attending an Open Day on campus.

“This year’s Open Day will still enable people to view key areas of our campuses, learn about USC’s study programs, and find out what’s involved in being a university student,” she said.

“They will also be able to chat online with our staff and students, which will provide helpful personal insights into what university life is like.

“We’re really looking forward to assisting senior high school students, who are exploring their study options for next year, as well as those who are considering new careers following the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Professor Wood encouraged people to register in advance at usc.edu.au/open-day to make the most of their online Open Day experience on Sunday.
