Exhibition for men’s mental health

An exhibition that focuses on how Sunshine Coast men deal with mental health issues was officially launched on Thursday 29 July.

Called ‘Portraits of Mankind’, the exhibition is a partnership between USC’s Thompson Institute and local photographer Megan Gill.

The exhibition features portraits of local men aged 21-60 who have spoken openly about the need for greater focus on mental health, how they used their experiences to help others, and about the support, understanding and help available in the local community.

At the launch, three men featured in the exhibition -  James Hill, Jandamarra Cadd and Mason Hope - spoke with MC Matthew Collins about overcoming their struggles by reaching out for support.

The rate of suicide on the Sunshine Coast is reportedly nine percent higher than the national average, with males representing four out of five suicides in this region.

The exhibition will be displayed in popular venues including TAFE Mooloolaba, USC Library, Venue 114 until November.
