Scenes of Coolum, past and present

Artwork: Blair McNamara, Red Sunset, oil on canvas. Thursday 21 July - Sunday 21 August

A colourful and evocative solo exhibition as Coolum artist Blair McNamara ponders the paradoxes of the current construction craze brought on by the 'sea change phenomenon' in his own seaside community. The exhibition takes a sideways glance at the irony of property development in its attempt to possess the scenic views that have always existed.

The exhibition offers the artist's distinctive paintings and a series of black and white photographs taken over the last 25 years in the Coolum region and focusing on the buildings: homes, hotels…the plain, bland, banal views that coastal residents experience daily.

The exhibition peels away the present to reveal forgotten gems of the past and Coolum is re-presented as a 'case-scenario' covering all the positive and absurd pressures that continue to impact our fragile coastal communities.
