Being Safety Smart

Monday 16 February–Saturday 21 March

A Queensland Police Service initiative developed in association with the University of the Sunshine Coast, Being Safety Smart presents an online game which gives anti-abduction and sexual abuse prevention strategies for children aged 6 to 8 years.

Created as an educational resource, the game’s key messages are based on global best practice and advice from the Queensland Police Service, the Crime and Misconduct Commission and Education Queensland.

The game is designed to increase children’s awareness of situations that might impact upon their personal safety and to empower them with the ability to act appropriately. It will be used as part of teacher and classroom-supported activities, as well as more widely accessible from a secure Internet site.

Schools are urged to try out the safety game as a great new resource to help teach young students about personal safety. Schools can arrange class tours of the exhibition by contacting Ms Oelrich on 5459 4633.
