A figurative painter, his large works use contemporary images, people in contemporary settings but always with a classical reference. He positions unidentified people in 'invented or borrowed landscapes or suspended in vastly decorative...empty colour fields'.
Using colour and tone he allows the viewer to fill in the blanks, to finish telling the often humorous story. Dunlop never takes himself too seriously but he loves the medium and the viewer cannot help but appreciate his passion.
Borrowed from private collections in NSW and Queensland, this exhibition also included work from a 2010 residency at the University of Texas (Dallas) alongside recent work.
