UniSC is offering short courses in a range of different languages and skill levels to suit your ability and aspirations. Our reputation for delivering a quality teaching experience through highly proficient teaching staff in a relaxed learning environment will give you every opportunity to succeed.

Are you going overseas for the holidays? Want to learn some useful phrases before you go? UniSC is offering 'travel taster' short courses in French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese, suitable for anyone travelling to other countries these holidays or just looking to learn some useful everyday phrases.

We are excited to include Beginner Auslan in our suite of languages. This seven-week course will teach you the fundamental skills to communicate with people who are Deaf. No previous Auslan experience is required.

Choose from 6 different languages - beginner and intermediate

Chinese (Mandarin), French, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, and Auslan.
* Intermediate classes offered in all languages with sufficient community interest.

Choose from 4 different languages - travel tasters

French, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.


The courses are coordinated by Dr Peter Grainger, School of Education and Tertiary Access, an applied linguist with a PhD in Language Learning Strategies, and an experienced teacher for 25 years in Queensland schools. The courses are delivered by practising accredited school teachers.

Beginner and intermediate spoken languages are delivered over an eight-week period, 2 hours per week, from 6pm to 8pm, a total of 16 hours tuition.

Travel Tasters are taught over a four-week period, 2 hours per week, from 6pm to 8pm, a total of 8 hours tuition. No text books required.

Beginner Auslan is a seven-week course, 2 hours per week, from 6pm to 8pm, a total of 14 hours tuition.
