Minute-to-win-it video competition

As part of this event we want to take this opportunity to celebrate the amazing research that our emerging researchers are doing! We invite you to showcase your research via a short video. Closing date for video submissions is Friday 26th November 2021.

Your video should explain:

i) what you did;

ii) why you did it;

iii) how you did it; and

iv) what you found.

You can be creative in how you present this information, you may choose to use slides (as many as you like), animations, or simply video record yourself talking.

Judging criteria and awards

A panel of judges will assess the videos based on the following criteria:

  • Research quality
  • Clarity of communication of the research
  • Innovation in communication of the research

$150 (paid into your research support fund) will be awarded to one HDR student and one ECR staff member for the top rated video in each category.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for HDR prize: Currently enrolled in a USC HDR program

Eligibility for the ECR prize: Academic staff members within five years of PhD conferral (minus career interruptions).

Recording your video

You can record in any way you prefer, as long as you can provide the video in .mp4 format. Note that any videos exceeding 60 seconds in length will be disqualified from judging.

You may want to use one of the following methods:

Submitting your video for judging

HDR students:

  • Save the video file in the following format: HDR_Firstname_Surname.
  • Save your video in OneDrive, and then right click on the file, click ‘share’ and select ‘anyone with link’. Then forward the link to lcovento@usc.edu.au.

ECRs:

  • Save the video file in the following format: ECR_Firstname_Surname.
  • Save your video in OneDrive, and then right click on the file, click ‘share’ and select ‘people in USC with the link'. Then forward the link to lcovento@usc.edu.au.

The closing date to submit your video for judging is Friday 26 November 2021.

A shortlist of videos will be shown at the event. We also intend to share all videos submitted internally within USC after the event.

We ask that all video entrants attend the event so that they can answer any questions about their research either online or in-person.

We look forward to seeing you on the day!

This event is a collaboration between the Research Showcase Committee, the Early Career Researcher Network and the Postgraduate Students Association.
