Thesis Title: An evaluation of primary healthcare Australian nurse-led clinics and HbA1c levels in patients with type 1 or 2 diabetes
Abstract: Diabetes is one of the most significant global concerns facing our health care system today. The World Health Organization has classified it is a pandemic, evident in Australia with over 280 people per day being diagnosed with diabetes. The purpose of this project is evaluate Australian nurse-led clinics and HbA1c levels in patients with type 1 or 2 diabetes. Due to the complex care of these patients and the present care that diabetes patients are receiving in general practices in Australia, this will be a mixed-method study, beginning with the extraction of data from general practices throughout Australia, progressing to anonymous surveys of nurses, patients and doctors, and qualitative nurses’ interviews.
Bio: Danielle Holloway is a PhD candidate with the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine at USC. She completed a Masters in Clinical Leadership at USC, and has over 30 years' experience as a registered nurse. Working for the past 12 years in primary health care, with a special interest in managing patients with chronic diseases in nurse-led clinics, she is passionate about diabetes and ensuring that these patients are given the best possible care to improve their long-term health, which has resulted in her pursuing her PhD research topic.
