Public Education

Education in Queensland have traditionally had a systems-based approach to education. While this remains at the core of the school system, the public system is growing more innovative and diverse. In 2013, Queensland proposed a new dual system – keeping the ‘traditional’ public schools run by the government, and the Independent Public Schools (IPS) initiative.

The IPS initiative is the catalyst for positive system-wide change and is becoming a well-sought after option for education and has created a more competitive market. Partnering with their community, IPS create and pursue a shared strategic direction that focuses on student wellbeing and improved student outcomes.

The IPS initiative provides opportunities for:

  • Enhanced local governance
  • Advancing innovation
  • Locally-tailored workforce
  • Financial flexibility
  • Building for the future
  • Public accountability, transparency and performance

Private Education

The Catholic, independent church-affiliated systems, and alternative institutions make up Queensland’s Private Education.

This tour has the capacity to explore state of the art facilities like performing art centres and world-class sporting areas and Olympic style aquatic centres. These big and advanced school facilities are funded from various innovative funding programs and solid partnerships through strong communities. Financial developments such as Major gift program bequests and building funds are well established and help support the growing needs of the educational industry. Building strong partnerships is a key to success for many of the private schools on the coast establishing secure relationships with construction right through to the local bus companies.

Many of the Sunshine Coast independent schools also take advantage of their surrounding environment by including the following curriculum:

  • Marine studies
  • Environmental sciences within the rainforests
  • Surfing and kayaking
  • Farming and agriculture
