Claire Smith

High school attended: Immanuel Lutheran College

Degree: Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/ Bachelor of Arts

Target graduation date: 2021

My journey: Like a lot of high school students, I wanted to take a gap year to travel and take a break from studying. When I looked into the courses on offer however, I was too excited to delay and instead changed my plans so I could start immediately. I have been studying full time ever since and loved the engaging content and the challenges they provide.

Career aspirations: I would love to teach overseas, sharing my love of Theatre and the English language with secondary students in different countries.

Why did you become an Ambassador? I have always known I was going to go to USC, because I was involved with numerous University events when I was in school and knew the campus and staff well. But I know not everyone is so certain in their direction. I became a Student Ambassador in the hopes that I could help graduating students by answering their questions and making their transition into university as easy and stress-free as possible. I love meeting and talking to new people and talking to them, and so this job was right up my alley.

What do you like about USC? Umm... can I say everything? I have genuinely fallen in love with USC and I believe that it is equal to the best universities in Australia. Not only is the Sippy Downs campus absolutely amazing – I personally love studying out on the grass with the kangaroos – but the staff and teaching facilities are beyond compare. In class, my lecturers and tutors know exactly who I am and are empathetic, understanding and quick to help whenever I need, and I have had nothing but positive experiences. Similarly, the quality of the many student support programs on campus have allowed to me to thrive physically, mentally, socially and academically. But above all else, did you know that we have an amazing Quidditch league?! Basically, USC is awesome.
