Hannah Devitt

High school attended: Caboolture State High School

Degree: Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Sociology)

Target graduation date: 2023

My journey: I dropped out of high school and worked full-time until my mid-twenties. I began USC's Tertiary Preparation Pathway at the beginning of April last year, and upon finishing, started another pathway with a different University in order to meet their requirements. I decided instead to begin my Bachelor of Arts straight away by accepting an offer with USC at the start of this year.

Career aspirations: I am an aspiring filmmaker and Sociologist. I hope to make films that create change within my community and extending further. I hope to conduct research that is integral to changing the lives and livelihoods of disadvantaged communities.

Why did you become an Ambassador? I love USC and I am very attached to the educational and wellbeing outcomes of the community that surrounds me. I believe that my journey to University could encourage students who may be confused as to what they want to do with their futures and show them how great USC could be for them.

What do you like about USC? The community, lecturers and the environment of USC are what makes it so special. USC places a great importance in paying respect to the Indigenous custodians of the land, which I haven’t experienced in other educational settings. I grew up in Caboolture and I believe that USC is an asset for our populace. I hope to be someone in this community who makes USC seem available and achievable to students who are potentially first in their family to attend University, and older students who think that University is only for “smart people” and not for everybody (as I have been trapped in this mindset before, too), as well as multiple other demographics.
