Rees Telford

High School attended: St John's College, Nambour

Degree: Bachelor of Biomedical Science

Target Graduation Date:  End of 2019

My Journey: I graduated high school at the end of 2016 and came straight to university. Originally my plan was to move out of home and to leave the Sunshine Coast. However, at the very last second I realised the benefits of staying at home (mum's meals of course). I made the decision to stay at home and make the most of the support my amazing parents give me. I commenced a Bachelor of Biomedical Science in 2017. I have no regrets about staying on the coast and at home, life is much easier.

Career Aspirations: After graduating Biomedical Science, I hope to gain graduate entry to a medical program somewhere in Australia. I intend to become a General Practitioner and open a clinic to increase and contribute to the accessibility of affordable healthcare in Australia.

Why did you become an ambassador? I was not aware of Ambassadors and their function until seeing a job alert on my emails. I decided I wanted to challenge myself and play a more active role in promoting what I have personally found to make USC unique. In addition to this, I also believe that my investment in a career pathway into medicine and subsequent knowledge of the process, allows me to help others get there themselves.

What do you like about USC? USC is a community. I really find that in comparison to my friends at other institutions, USC stands out. USC contributes to a personalised experience, where you feel that you can indeed rise, and shine. There are many support mechanisms available. I find lecturers and tutors make themselves available to have one on one conversations, there are drop in consultations from volunteers and fellow students, there are academic advisers in the library during the week; and the list goes on! USC is a tight-knit community where you frequently run into friends and friendly familiar faces. You are not just another person in the crowd.
