Alayna Cole is an award-winning games journalist, game developer, and Serious Games academic at USC, currently completing her Doctor of Creative Arts. She is a respected researcher in the field of queer representation in games, particularly in the representation of bisexual identity.
In 2016, she founded Queerly Represent Me, a resource hub and research organisation about queer representation in games, which has been featured in several national and international industry publications. She also co-founded Horned Llama Studio and is the lead writer and designer on this game development team. In 2017, she co-founded Experience Play, an organisation working on creating interactive art experiences on the Sunshine Coast.
Alayna has designed and released games that have received commendations nationally and internationally. Her 2016 title ‘Enthymema’ received the Jury Award and Audience Award in the international competition Serenity Forge. It was then invited to be featured at the QGCon arcade with another of Alayna’s game titles ‘Snapshot’.
Alayna has been invited to speak at conventions and conferences nationally, including Epic Diem and DiGRA International, and has had her work published internationally at conferences including QGCon and Difference Games. Alayna has been included on the MCV Pacific 30 under Thirty list for 2016, as well as the MCV Pacific Women in Games: Gamechangers list for 2017. She was a finalist for the 2017 Women in Games Awards presented by Xbox and nominated for Journalist of the Year in the 2016 LGBTI awards.
