About the symposium
The safety of students and staff is a key priority for all Australasian universities. There is currently no peak organisation in the tertiary sector with a focus on campus safety and the assessment of behavioural threats.
Extending on from the Part 1 Practitioner Workshops at Monash University in November 2018, the Part 2 Symposium aims to establish an Australasian University Safer Community Association, and to develop terms of reference for the ongoing functioning of this peak body. In addition, the Symposium will provide opportunities for benchmarking across the sector, with partner institutions providing clarity in relation to organisational structures and services that are provided through Safer Community Units, or equivalent risk and threat assessment units. The Symposium will also hold peer and expert-led presentations on shared themes and current issues facing the sector.
Please note, although this is Part 2 of a symposium series, attendance at Part 1 is not required. Part 2 content and topics are different and attendees are not disadvantaged or limited by not attending Part 1.
Who should attend?
This symposium would be best suited to practitioners in the safer community space, managers and directors in the relevant student services and security areas, professionals working in grievance, misconduct, student support services, University executives, security etc.
The symposium will start with a cocktail party 5pm Sunday 19 May 2019. Day one will commence at 8:30am on Monday 20 May and will be followed by the symposium dinner that evening. Day two will start at 8:30am and will finish at 4pm.
A detailed agenda will be published once guest speakers are confirmed.
