University is not just for those who have gained an OP, or even finished Year 12. There are many ways to begin enjoying a university experience — your child just needs to find the right path for them.

New pathway diplomas

In 2019, USC will offer pathway university diplomas, allowing students to get a taste of university and have something to show for it without the commitment of a full degree program. These diplomas are stand-alone qualifications that will give your child direct entry and up to one year’s credit for selected bachelor’s degrees.

USC offers diplomas in Business Innovation, Creative Industries, Science and Technology and Social and Human Services. To be eligible for entry, students need to either be 17 or have completed Year 12 (and meet general English language requirements). Students who apply for a diploma must not have completed any further tertiary study. However, in-school diploma students and Headstart students are still eligible. Students apply for a USC diploma through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) and university course fees apply for these programs.

Tertiary Preparation Pathway

USC’s Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP) is a uni entry pathway option for those who may not have finished Year 12, didn’t receive an OP, or haven’t completed other study (such as a certificate or diploma) that can give them entry into a USC program.

The TPP program is fee-free and so is a really great way for students to experience university life without the financial commitment. Specific courses within the TPP program can also help students meet prerequisite study to gain entry into USC programs.

Students can choose to study TPP full time or part time and can apply for the program through QTAC.

If your child in unsure about which pathway option best suits them, they should speak with USC’s Admissions team, who will be able to talk through the options.
