Year 12 Study Skills Masterclasses

Get out of holiday mode and ready for your final year of high school with the Year 12 Study Skills Masterclasses. Targeted specifically for students going into Year 12 in 2019, you’ll learn from experts and get support to help you achieve higher study results, build your confidence and minimise stress in your final year of school — preparing you to rise, and shine in 2019 and beyond.

Delivered over the last week of school holidays, Masterclasses will get you ready to hit the ground running and achieve academic success in Year 12.

What will be covered?

Learn from experienced high school teachers who will take you through the subject syllabus and assessment expectations to get you ahead of the game for Year 12. The following subject areas are covered:

  • Biology: Wednesday 16 January
  • Chemistry: Thursday 17 January
  • English: Friday 18 January
  • Maths B & C: Monday 21 January
  • Physics: Wednesday 23 January
Schedule
8.30am–10.30am  QCAA Curriculum Frameworks
10.30am–11am Morning Tea
11am–1pm

Subject specific study skills focused on:

  • The big ideas of the particular subject area eg Maths, Chemistry etc.
  • Hands-on activities
  • Problem solving and reasoning skills
1pm–1.30pm Lunch
1.30pm–2.30pm Preparation for exams and assignments

Year 10-11 Study Skills Workshop

Tactics for developing resilience, leadership and study skills 

This workshop targets students entering Year 10 and 11 in 2019 to prepare for their last years of high school. The focus of this workshop is to equip students with the tools and strategies they require to revise and reinforce a range of study skills, assisting them to study more effectively and to consolidate their understanding in preparation for exams. It aims to help students improve their critical thinking skills and habits of mind, and to increase students' confidence in their ability to do well.

Facilitator

Raymart Walker is completing his qualifications in Secondary Education and International Studies at USC. He has been active in student success initiatives locally, nationally and internationally for many years. Raymart has recently returned from a cultural exchange to Japan as a New Colombo Plan scholar. He understands how to thrive in modern learning environments, and is passionate about global leadership and empowering others to achieve their goals.
