High school attended: Immanuel Lutheran College
Degree: Masters of Communications, majoring in Creative Writing
Target graduation date: Mid-2015
My journey: I took a gap year initially out of high school, and then completed most of my undergraduate degree at an American college called Brigham Young University. I was on an athletic scholarship, but unfortunately got injured. Coming home for rehabilitation, I was able to complete my undergraduate degree and my Graduate Diploma of Education at the University of the Sunshine Coast. I was intending to study Masters at a Brisbane university, but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do postgraduate work alongside such successful authors like Paul Williams and Gary Crew and feel very fortunate to have them as lecturers and tutors.
Uni involvement: Student Ambassador, President of the USC Spartan Athletics club, Maroochydore Oztag, USC gym member.
Other: I have represented Australia in athletics three times and love most sports! I specialise in the sprint events and am often seen at the University’s track and gym facilities. I also completed the majority of my undergraduate degree overseas in the United States of America and just got back from a three month adventure throughout Europe!
Career aspirations: I am a qualified teacher, and hope to continue to teach in my specialised fields. I am also excited to write my creative and exegetical work in my Masters of Communications and hope this can provide further opportunities in a range of fields, including teaching.
Why did you become an Ambassador? I became an ambassador because I am passionate about furthering education and the University of the Sunshine Coast. I believe that expanding knowledge will help not only in career choice, but throughout life to become a more experienced and well rounded person. If I can promote higher learning and encourage a variety of people to attend the University of the Sunshine Coast, then I will feel accomplished.
What do you like about USC? USC is a fantastic place for further learning opportunities as it is close to the beach, has excellent sporting facilities, a variety of international students and programs and lecturers and tutors who are advanced in their fields. I was initially only going to stay for my undergraduate degree, but have ended up studying two postgraduate courses here because I enjoy it so much. I want others to feel as passionately as I do about the University!
