High school attended: Meridan State College

Degree: Bachelor of Urban Design and Town Planning

Target graduation date: 2019

My journey: In the senior phases of high school, I didn’t know what career pathway I wanted to follow. I had many ideals about choosing a job that would help others and make a difference in the world. It was through a passion for science, design and the built and natural environments that I decided to try my hand in Engineering. A USC Student Ambassador who visited my school recommended a pathway program that was offered, which allowed me to study two first year university courses in year 11. This was a fantastic decision as it gave me the opportunity to see what University was like and showed me that a Bachelor of Engineering was not what I wanted to continue studying.

In year 12 I came across the Bachelor of Urban Design and Town Planning at USC, a perfect mix of environment and design as well as social sciences. In the last week of school, I was offered a place at USC through the Early Offer Guarantee, and I was subsequently offered the Vice-Chancellors Merit Scholarship and most recently the Project Urban Bursary in Regional and Urban Planning to go with my studies.

Career aspirations: Following graduation from USC, I would like to work for council or a government planning department to further my education and understanding of the development assessment system. My ideal future job, would be working for a large private developer helping to find sustainable housing solutions for a growing future population.

Why did you become an Ambassador? As a student ambassador, I get to speak to many students, most of whom don’t know what they want to study, and this is a position I am all too familiar with. Choosing my Degree was one of the best decisions I have ever made and I want to help future students make a decision about University that they will fall in love with every day.

What do you like about USC? USC personalises the university experience. This provides each student with a strong, supportive learning environment. Smaller class sizes mean that you can meet people with the same passions and background as you. This also allows for great opportunities for students to directly engage with industry professionals on the Sunshine Coast.
