About the Guest Speaker
Dr Maria Kalevitch is a University Professor of Biology and Dean of the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science (SEMS). She holds a PhD in Biology/Microbiology from the highly regarded Institute of Botany, Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. She earned her BS/MS in Bioengineering/ Biotechnology from Moscow University of Biotechnology, and had her postdoctoral experience at the Department of Biology, Humboldt University, Germany and Institute of Plant Physiology, Sofia, Bulgarian
Academy of Sciences.
Maria is a member of WELI, Women in Engineering Leadership Institute, a full member of the prestigious New York Academy of Sciences, American Society for Microbiology
(ASM) and American Mycological Society. She was recognised recently by a Certificate of Achievement from the International Journal of Arts and Sciences: in recognition of her outstanding research presentation ”NSF STEM Scholars” at the Convitto della Calza Conference in Italy.
She was selected by the INSIGHT into Diversity Magazine as a recipient of the 2015 Inspiring Women in STEM Award.
