Diversity Awareness Training

9 Nov 2020

Across our campuses and study sites, the USC community is working together to create an inclusive culture that:

  • Encourages universal student engagement
  • Improves retention
  • Enhances the overall quality of the student experience.

During November and December, USC, together with the Queensland Human Rights Commission, will be running several workshops aimed to broaden your knowledge of aspects of diversity and inclusion and to enhance your professional practice.

These 2-hour online workshops include:

Unconscious Bias Awareness

This workshop provides participants with an understanding of what unconscious bias is, where it comes from, and how much it can affect decision making. Participants will develop methods to identify and counteract unconscious bias.

Gender identity and discrimination

This workshop provides participants with an understanding of gender identity as defined by the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 and the protections provided by the Act for Transgender and Gender Diverse people.

Sexuality and Gender Identity 'Becoming a USC Ally'

The Queensland Council for LGBTIQ Health is also delivering a workshop on Sexuality and Gender Identity Awareness 'Becoming a USC Ally'.

You will learn about:

  • LGBTIQ terminology
  • Sexual orientation and gender identity
  • Myths, values, and stereotypes associated with LGBTIQ
  • Factors that make it difficult for LGBTIQ students and staff.

These workshops are being delivered via Zoom on various days between 24 November - 4 December.

Register at Student Hub for one or more of these workshops and for more information contact Diversity@usc.edu.au
