I want to acknowledge the role of QUT here in Caboolture since 2002 and on this campus since 2005. They have done a terrific job in providing relevant education programs and in partnering with schools and community to lift educational aspiration and participation.
We are committed to continuing this tradition.
Caboolture is a really good fit for us. We made a conscious decision about five years ago to transition into a multi-campus institution. Our two major drivers were: firstly, to peg out a catchment that would provide the population base for a large and powerful university of the sort of scale QUT has achieved; and secondly to take responsibility for providing Higher Education access to communities that have never had significant exposure to university level education but have much to gain from it.
So here we are today. Caboolture has been the sort of community I was just talking about, and in terms of USC’s multi-campus model, it will be the closest campus to our birthplace at Sippy Downs. And I think that geographical closeness will provide the Caboolture community with opportunities that weren’t as easy to grasp for a Brisbane-based university.
I am really looking forward to working with staff and the campus and the community from the start of 2018.
