Program helps Gympie teens start uni early

20 March 2014

Year 11 and 12 students wanting to take early steps on their career paths are encouraged to attend the Headstart Information Evening at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gympie on Tuesday 25 March from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

USC Gympie Manager Graham Young said the information evening, to be held at USC Gympie on Cartwright Road, would include details about the Headstart program, study options and the application process.

A former Headstart student who is now an undergraduate student will outline her experiences and Mr Young will take interested high school students, their friends and families on an optional tour of the facilities.

“Multiple Headstart courses will be available at USC Gympie in semester two starting in August,” Mr Young said.

Headstart allows Year 11 and 12 students to complete up to two USC subjects while still in high school, gaining a taste of university life while working towards their future degrees and dream jobs.

It can provide students with an alternative pathway into university, with credit for those subjects successfully completed.

Registrations for the event can be made online or by phoning 5456 5000.
