USC wants to hear about outstanding graduates

2013 Outstanding Alumnus Jenny Morawska

The University of the Sunshine Coast is seeking nominations from the community for its annual Outstanding Alumni Awards.

USC would like to hear from employers, parents, friends and colleagues of graduates who have attained significant achievements since graduating from the University.

This could include high achievers in any field of endeavour, from professional or community work to postgraduate study and research. Nominations close on Monday 7 July.

USC’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill said the awards had been extended this year to include two new categories that celebrate regional achievement and “rising stars”.

“In addition to the usual Outstanding Alumnus of the Year award, the Regional Achievement award will recognise USC graduates making an impact on the Sunshine Coast, while the Rising Star category is for those aged 35 years or younger or those who graduated in the past five years,” he said.

Professor Hill urged the community to get involved as there were now many high-calibre USC graduates excelling in their chosen fields locally, nationally and internationally.

“We encourage people to nominate successful graduates for these awards so they can be recognised for the significant contributions they are making,” he said.

Last year’s award winners were plant biology researcher Dr Amal Johnston (Master of Science 2002) and executive leadership consultant Jenny Morawska (MBA 2000).

USC’s Alumni Relations Officer Anita Edmonds said previously nominated alumni who were unsuccessful in the past could be re-nominated, and self-nominations would be accepted.

“Nominators are not required to specify award category, as the judging panel will determine the categories in which the nominees are most suited,” she said.

The awards will be presented at the 2014 Outstanding Alumni Awards Ceremony at USC on Thursday 11 September.
Nomination forms are available online or by contacting Ms Edmonds at or (07) 5459 4564.
