Graduate launches cheeky Bare Basics cookbook

USC Nutrition and Dietetics graduate Kelly Daly recently launched her first publication, ‘The Bare Basics’, a cookbook with a cheeky difference.

Written squarely for the student market, the cookbook is a collection of simple “starting from scratch” recipes illustrated with photographs of naked men with judiciously placed food and cooking utensils.

“Food is a wonderful thing and handsome men are just divine, so why not combine the two?” Miss Daly said.

Miss Daly, 24, of Kenmore explained the aim of ‘The Bare Basics’ was to inspire young people to cook healthy, delicious food in their own kitchens rather than relying on take-away meals.

“The cookbook contains all the basic how-to guides of cooking: how to cook a steak; how to make sushi; how to cook rice; how to make a stir fry; how to cook a roast etc.,” she said.

“It also covers a variety of cuisines, shopping in season and healthy swaps.”

Miss Daly revealed that her own university experience, living in student accommodation near USC, inspired her to create a cookbook to help students deal with the dietary necessities of living out of home.

“By living at Varsity Apartments I became acutely aware of how few students knew how to cook the basics of a nourishing meal,” she said.

“This cookbook is here to help future students ensure they learn how to nourish themselves in order to get through the physical and mental demands of student life.”
