Karl Ringrose

Karl graduated from USC in 2008. As part of his Arts degree, he studied computer-based design, and Australian and cultural studies.

After graduating, he worked in graphic design at a Caboolture print house and evolved into web development before embarking on a three-year working holiday. He worked as a designer at a Vancouver-based global accounting software company, then picked up freelance design and development work while he and his wife backpacked across South America. A highlight was relaunching the website and business of a surf camp in Nicaragua that became hugely popular, with bookings months in advance.

Karl joined Expedia in early 2015 after the acquisition of his previous employer, online travel company Wotif.com. As a project leader, he works to implement user-facing web applications for Expedia's internal cloud tools globally.

“I didn’t choose a conventional curriculum path but I followed what I enjoyed in high school – art and IT – and loved it.

“I’d like to foster a design mindset among software engineering teams that are computer science-based.

“Studying at USC helped shape my world views and beliefs. I was encouraged to break down privileges and biases, and I was exposed to a wide range of industry problems and mediums. With this mindset, I embraced career challenges as opportunities."
