An extract from the transcripts of Queensland Parliament
Mr COMBEN:“...Finally, I thank Professor Paul Thomas, the planning president of the Sunshine Coast University College, previously the Associate Dean of Education at the Queensland University of Technology. Professor Thomas is present in the gallery today. I thank him for the work that he has put in. It might have been a bit tough for him, sitting here for seven hours yesterday afternoon waiting for this Bill to be debated. He eventually went home at 1.30 a.m.
Mr BEATTIE: It was worth waiting for, though.
Mr COMBEN: I am not sure that it was worth waiting for last night when he went home at 1.30 a.m. He has recently moved from Bardon to the north coast, but last night he went back to his empty house to sleep in a tracksuit with no bed clothes.
Mr BEATTIE: We will need a violin shortly.
Mr COMBEN: He fronted here again this morning. I thank him for the courtesy and the great humour that he has brought to the position. It has been an essential levelling process. At times there has been a lot of concern about the university college, but that is now dissipating because of the great work that the professor is doing, and we all thank him for that. It is a great day.
