Sam Holmes of Toowoomba has secured a job with Bayside Hand Therapy in Brisbane after completing a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Sam, 22, who graduated from USC on Friday 11 April, is now an occupational therapist assisting the clinic’s patients with the rehabilitation of the upper limbs.

The former St Mary's College student said he was delighted to have gained employment in the area of occupational therapy that he was most interested in.

“USC offered me the opportunity to complete a student placement in hand therapy and also ensured that the experience would be beneficial to my development as an occupational therapist, particularly in the area of my interest,” Sam said.

“I am very happy to be working full time with Bayside Hand Therapy and have begun further study which is keeping me very busy.”

Sam said he chose to study at USC after attending an Open Day.

“The staff were so passionate about occupational therapy that it reinforced my decision to pursue studies in that field,” he said.

He also appreciated the structure of the course and the supportive teaching staff.

“The staff knew each student at a personal level and they made time to help whenever I needed it,” he said.

“USC's program gave me the opportunity to try out a variety of areas of practice and choose which one suited me.”

Sam said he had enjoyed USC’s open and relaxed atmosphere, the sports options available on campus and that the beach was only a short drive away.
