Strong business and industry links have helped put USC’s Accounting graduates among the best in Australia for job success.

In data published in the 2015 Good Universities Guide, USC ranked fifth highest of all Australian universities for the percentage of its Accounting graduates finding work within four months of course completion.

A table since published in the Australian Financial Review, based on the data, showed USC in the nation’s ‘Best Five’ universities for the chances of Accounting graduates getting a job, with only 17 percent of USC’s Accounting Bachelor degree graduates aged under 25 still seeking their first full-time job four months after completion.

USC Senior Lecturer in Accounting Dr Peter Baxter welcomed the results.

“This reflects the dedication of Accounting discipline staff (including Greg Laing, Monte Wynder, Michelle Joubert, Ross Kirkham and myself) in assisting our students pursue their chosen careers through high-quality teaching and career advice,” he said.

“We have very good relationships with the accounting professional bodies, whose representatives regularly visit USC to speak to our students.

“We also have a strong reputation among local accounting firms, who contact us to promote job opportunities direct to our students. In addition, an increasing number of our students and graduates are gaining vacation and graduate employment positions with the ‘big four’ firms in Brisbane – KPMG, PWC, EY and Deloitte.”

Dr Baxter said an on-campus careers expo for Accounting and Financial Planning students would be held at USC early in 2015, to include representatives from professional bodies and local and Brisbane firms.

USC Head of School of Business Professor Mike Clements said the School was proud of its partnerships with industry.

“This accolade is testament to the value industry places on School of Business graduates from USC,” Professor Clements said.
